Thilaga was originally called to the Bar in 2007 and cross-qualified to become a solicitor in 2009. Prior to this, she worked with various law firms where she developed multiple case working skills. Her extensive experience in the immigration field was acquired during her stint at O’Keeffe Solicitors where she was an Immigration Advocate from 2004-2007.

Thilaga joined Trident Legal in 2009 as head of Immigration and Dispute Resolution. She became the firm’s in-house Advocate for all Immigration and General Civil Litigation, working with many barristers, including some well-known Silks, on a range of contentious matters at Arbitration and Mediation tribunals as well as in the Civil Courts. She has represented international clients from Sri Lanka, Dubai, Singapore and Malaysia, often in complex matters with multiple jurisdictions. Alongside her case work, Thilaga also became Compliance Officer and gained experience in SRA regulation and related issues.

Due to her extensive experience, Thilaga was only required to complete 3 months of second pupillage to become a fully qualified member of the Bar. thilaga qualified in June 2019.

Thilaga is regularly instructed to represent clients at FTT and UT as well as in Judicial Review proceedings.  She has acted as junior in some highly complex asylum and criminal deportation cases whilst continuing to develop her own independent practice.  She has dealt with a number of civil cases and is keen to develop her practice further in the Civil arena alongside her Immigration practice which remains her main focus.

Thilaga regularly drafts proceedings and represents clients in the following types of work:

Asylum, Entry Clearance & Article 8, Bail Applications, Criminal Deportation, EEA Appeals (residence permits/sham marriages), Error of Law, Administrative & Judicial Review, Statelessness Applications and Unlawful Detention.

Thilaga is also able to undertake civil cases in relation to Landlord & Tenant/Possession proceedings and some Family cases.
